Creativ Festival and Yarn Shopping

I went to the Creativ Festival over the weekend. They had a lot of sewing and quilting supplies, but not a lot of yarn. I did manage to pick up a few things but I was disappointing in the selection. When I went to the fall show last year, there was so much variety I didn't know what to buy. Not the case this time around.

Lots of sock yarn: Fleece Artist Trail Socks, Malabrigo Sock in Tiziano Red, Schachenmayr Regia Fluormania Color in Neon Ocean and SweetGeorgia's Tough Love Sock in ultra violet.

This Mary Maxim blanket kit looks like it is made by knitting. It is in fact made by crocheting. Which I didn't realize until I got home and opened the package. I wish this had been clearer. The yarn is still nice and I might attempt to crochet it, or I will just choose a different pattern.

Since the Creativ Festival was disappointing in the yarn department, I went to the new LYS that just opened up. It is a beautiful store with a great variety of yarn at reasonable prices.

More yarn: Mythic Yarn's The Epic Wool Silk Blend in Aphrodite was made of Seafoam? and 2 balls of Knitca Socks in Jade.

Mollie Makes Kits

I am sorry about my lack of posts lately, I had some family things to take care of. Now I am back and I hope to (regularly) start posting again!

One of my favorite things about getting the Mollie Makes magazine is the kits that come with it.

I finished the Neon Mug Sleeve and the Coin Purse (I am using it to hold my buttons). Now I am working on a felt doll, I have cut out all the pieces and started working on the head.

These kits force me out of my comfort zone. They make me practice my sewing skills and make things that I wouldn't normally attempt.

Knit in Seed Stitch until you are satisfied with size or you run out of yarn.

Neon Afghan

I wanted to venture into brighter colours for an afghan and when I saw this neon yarn, I knew I had to make something with it.

Neon:
Yarn:  Caron Simply Soft in white, neon pink, iris, neon yellow
Needle Size: US 10 (6mm)
Pattern Source: Chevron Baby Blanket from Espace Tricot

To make this afghan I casted on 145 stitches and did 24 rows for each colour repeat.

My inspiration for the border came from this post, but I didn't follow it exactly. To make this border I did:
1- Granny clusters in white
2- *Half double crochet, ch1* around in pink
3- *sc, ch1* around in yellow
4- Picot edging in purple following these instructions from Attic24
