The Blue Sparkle Socks

There are two types of patterns that I like to make, and which one I choose depends on my mood. The first kind is the 'mindless knitting, I can watch TV without having to pay too much attention to what I am doing' pattern. These projects would not be too difficult, while still being interesting (as was the case for my Almondine Socks). The second kind of pattern that I like is challenging, but not so hard that I get frustrated and want to give up. This next sock in my Sock Knitting Master Class Challenge is a mixture of both.

The stockinette stitch pattern was a break in between learning some new techniques.

The Blue Sparkle Socks:
Yarn: Red Heart Stardust in Blue
Needle Size: Size 1 (2.25mm) DPNs

This was a pair of toe-up socks, only my 3rd pair ever, and the pattern uses Judy's magic cast-on, which I have never used before. The round heel was also a new technique for me, and the bind-off was not something I had done before. There was a lot of new things for me to learn for this pattern, but it was well written and easy to follow so I never got frustrated. The pattern did call for knitting with two circular needles, but I used DPNs because I do not have circ needles that size.
These turned out really good and they fit perfectly.
Happy Knitting!

  1. I love your Sock Knitting Master Class Challenge!

And thank you for writing about all the techniques in that "simple" pair of socks. I wouldn't have given the pattern a second look but now I'm intrigued. Great choice for the Stardust yarn, too!
