Two Finished Shawls

I recently finished two shawls. One is my Shades of Purple shawl that I was working on recently, and the other is a scrap sock yarn shawl that I had been working on right before we moved. It got put aside in the shuffle, and even though it was basically finished (just needed a wash and block), it took me 2 months to get it photographed.

Sock Yarn Shawl:
Yarn: Leftover yarn from my Business Casual and Buffy socks
Needle Size: US 7 (4.5mm)
Pattern Source: Scrap Shawl by Lakshmi Juneja

Shades of Purple:
Yarn: Malabrigo's Arroyo in Borraja
Needle Size: US 8 (5mm)
Pattern Source: Age of Brass and Steam by Orange Flower Yarn (Free Ravelry download)

I love knitting shawls that do not require a lot of thinking, or following a pattern too closely. That way I can knit and watch TV and not worry about making any mistakes. I would highly recommend both patterns, and I am excited to add these shawls to my collection!

Shades of Purple Shawl WIP

Work in progress - Shades of Purple

My shawl knitting and coffee - a perfect start to my day.

Working on my Age of Brass and Steam Shawl and contemplating how many more rows of stockinette I should do before starting the last section. I am really enjoying this easy knit and the yarn is wonderful (Malabrigo's Arroyo in Borraja)!

Fall Knitting

For my birthday I received a ball of  Berroco's Boboli Lace and I wanted to make something special for myself with it. After looking through some of my favorite patterns on Ravelry I found the perfect project for this yarn.

Fall Shawl:
Yarn: Berroco's Boboli Lace in Venice
Needle Size: US 8 (5.0mm)
Pattern Source:  Lonely Tree Shawl by Sylvia Bo Bilvia (free Ravelry download)

I didn't even use up the whole ball of yarn for this project, I still have enough leftover to make a baby hat or two!

The pattern and the yarn are the perfect fit and this shawl is going to get a lot of use this fall.

I can't seem to get any good pictures of the whole shawl. Anybody else have this problem? Or is it just me? I would really like to take a photography lesson so that I could learn to take some beautiful pictures of my projects.

Shawl

I finished a pretty mint green shawl that I had meaning to make for a while now. As soon as I saw the pattern for this shawl, I knew I had to make it in a nice mint green colour. I absolutely love the way it turned out!

Pretty Green Shawl:
Yarn: Mythic Yarn's The Epic Wool Silk Blend in Aphrodite was made of Seafoam?
Needle Size: US 6 (4.0mm)
Pattern Source: True Romance Shawl from Mollie Makes issue 37

I wasn't able to do the last two rows of the edge pattern since I was running out of yarn. I ended up finishing with just over 5 grams left, so I am glad I didn't try doing more repeats.

Yummy Shawl

I finished knitting a shawl a few weeks ago, but due to a very hectic couple of weeks, I never managed to get a picture of it. Until now:

Yummy Shawl:
Yarn: Loops & Threads Rainbow in Sparkle
Needle Size: US 8 (5.0mm)
Pattern Source: Chock from Norah Gaughan, vol. 14 (I bought the individual pattern from Ravelry)

Isn't it gorgeous? I absolutely love the way it turned out. I have been getting plenty of compliments on it and it has kept me nice and warm during the cold weather. The pattern  was very clear and easy to follow, and the yarn was nice to work with.

Wrong-side of the shawl is just as nice as the front!

Mauve Shawl

I received a new fall coat for my birthday, and I wanted to make myself a purple shawl to match it. I've used Red Heart Boutique's Unforgettable yarn in the past and loved the results, so I picked up another ball and started in on a wonderful pattern.

Mauve Shawl:
Needle Size: US 9 (5.5mm)
Pattern Source: Black Death by Hoxton Handmade (free Ravelry download)

The needles I used are 1 size up from what the pattern called for since I couldn't find my size 8 needles anywhere.  The pattern was easy to follow with clear instructions. There are two sizes given and I made the smaller one.

I love the results of this pattern and the yarn. It is going to keep me nice and warm in the coming months. This is a pattern I would definitely recommend even to a beginner knitter.

Spring Shawl

I finished this pretty shawl a little while ago, but I never got around to taking a picture of it until now.

Blue Spring Shawl:
Yarn: Patons Lace in Mystic Teal
Needle Size: U.S. 6 (4.0mm)
Pattern Source: Dinner in the Eiffel Tower Shawl (free pattern!)

This was a really great project, and I love the way it looks when it is done. It is perfect for the cool weather we have been having. This was a great pattern that was easy to follow with great results.

Beautiful Shawl

For my secret santa gift exchange at Christmas, I received yarn from my secret santa! I got 2 balls of sock yarn that I used to make my Rose Rib Pink Socks, and a ball of Regia Lace. The ball band had a beautiful picture of a lace shawl and I wanted to make it right away. Then I downloaded the pattern and my jaw dropped. I've done plenty of lace knitting, but nothing like this. I haven't used a lot of charts, so this pattern was overwhelming at first, but I read the instructions about 10 times and started knitting... and knitting... and knitting... It took me a long time to get this one done, but it was worth the wait. It is stunning. I could not get a good picture of the completed project, so this picture definitely does not do the shawl justice.

Lace Shawl:
Yarn: Regia Lace in kunzit
Needle Size: Size 7 (4.5mm)
Pattern Source: Regia Lace Shawl - A free download

I only worked until row 78 of the pattern. The shawl was already the size that I liked, and I would not have had enough yarn to finish anyway (if anyone is interested in making this shawl, make sure you have 2 balls of yarn). I would not recommend this pattern to anyone, it seems to have a lot of mistakes in it, and some of the instructions are unclear and hard to understand. I would not do it again, I would try another pattern.

Beautiful Shawls

I'm supposed to be going to bed right now since I have a test tomorrow morning, but I just couldn't resist sharing these two patterns with you.
I was just browsing through some Ravelry patterns and I came across two beautiful shawls, and the best part is that they are free Ravelry downloads (you have to sign up to access the patterns, but if you're a knitter and you don't use Ravelry - well you should sign up right now!)

The first shawl I came across is the Glam Shells shawl:

Isn't it beautiful?

The second shawl is the Alfinchen pattern:

Aren't these just fantastic? Now I just need more time so I can knit them!

A collection of shawls

Last summer my obsession was socks, this time around it is shawls/shawlettes. It started off when I fell in love with the 'Joyeux Shawlette' from Phydeaux Designs. My wonderful parents got me the kit for Christmas and I knit it up in no time. I absolutely love it, the design is great, the yarn is fantastic, the end result is perfect!

My next project was the Holden Shawlette (a free ravelry download!). I used Ella Rae Lace Merino yarn that was originally intended for a pair of socks, but I did not like the way the first sock came out, so I frogged it and made it into this shawl instead. I'm so glad I did, it turned out beautifully (the picture does not do it justice).

My latest shawl is a pattern from the book 'Luxury Yarn One-Skein Wonders: 101 Small Indulgences' called Bison Shawlette. I used some unknown yarn from my stash and it turned out great! I would definitely recommend this book for everyone's library, it has great patterns that can be used for those lone beautiful skeins of yarn that you don't know what to do with!

I will be putting up some new listings in my Etsy shop soon. I hope to have some pictures to share with you by the weekend. Make sure to keep visiting!

Happy Knitting!

Finally some new finished projects to share!

School has been keeping me busy these past few months and I haven't had as much time as I would like to be crafting. I did manage to get some things done, including the Vespa shawl that I have had my eye on for some time. I loved the design of this and it was so easy and fast to knit up, I memorized the pattern after just a few repeats. I used Bernat Alpaca Natural Blends in "stone" and I needed just over 2 skeins to finish it. I did 17 repeats of the pattern and added two buttons to keep it secure around the neck. It's a great pattern and I love the look of the finished project! I was going to keep it, but because I already have so many scarves/shawls for myself I'm putting it up in my Etsy shop.

I also had a bit of time to do a great cross-stitch design: "Live Fast, Die Pretty". It was my first time following a charted pattern for a cross-stitch and I love the results!! It looks amazing.

Sweater Wrap

I finally completed my sweater wrap that I have been working on for a few weeks now. It wouldn't have taken me so long if I hadn't been distracted by other projects (like the socks from my previous post).
I love the pattern and the results are absolutely beautiful, but even after blocking it still curls because of the stockinette stitch. I still love it though! The pattern is easy and can be memorized fairly quickly after only a few rows, I would recommend it to anyone. It's a free pattern from the Michaels website that can be found here.

I also knitted a present as a surprise for someone who's birthday is coming up soon. It's a neck warmer in a great lace pattern. I found the pattern in the book "Luxury Yarn One-Skein Wonders". It is an amazing book that I would recommend to anyone. There are a few crochet patterns in it too but it is mostly for knitters. Every project in it is beautiful (and there are just over 100!) and I would love to knit all of them (except for the tie... wouldn't do that one). After giving the person their present I will be posting a picture of it.

Project Completed!

So I finally put the finishing touches on the lazy day lace shawl. I got the pattern from www.marykeenanknits.com . It took me a lot longer to complete then it was supposed to, but it's done just in time for spring. And what a beautiful spring day it is today! The little snow we had is melted and it's actually quite warm out right now. Great day to take pictures.

Hopefully I will be able to upload the pictures of the birthday present I knitted soon.
