Baby Shower Knits

I wrote this post a few weeks ago, and I have scheduled it so that it will post after these items have already been gifted. My cousin is having a baby and I wanted to make something special for the new little baby boy. I knew that my grand-mother would be knitting something, so I wanted to make a few things that are different from my normal baby blanket gift.

I decided on the cutest baby sweater. As this is the first time I have made a sweater, I chose an easy one that I thought would be great for a baby born in the fall.

Little Old Man Cardigan:
Yarn: Berroco's Ultra Alpaca in Barley (I used a little over one skein - I needed a second skein to make the second sleeve)
Needle Size: US 6 (4.0mm)
Pattern Source: What To Knit When You're Expecting by Nikki Van De Car

I had to adjust the pattern for the sleeves. If I had knit them the way it was written in the pattern, the sleeves would have been way too long. So I decreased the number of rows knit plain between decreases to shorten the sleeves.

I think this cardigan came out perfect and I cannot wait to see the baby in it!

As a little add-on to include with the cardigan, I made a Baby-Shower Cake. It includes two washcloths and a burp cloth. This is so easy to knit and makes for a nice addition to a baby shower gift. This is the third time I have made this project, and I never tire of the result.

Baby-Shower Cake:
Yarn: Lily Sugar'n Cream
Needle Size: US 7 (4.5mm)
Pattern Source: Baby-Shower Cake by Lainie Hering

I think these two items together make the perfect gift for a baby shower. I will definitely be making another Little Old Man Cardigan for the next baby boy to come along.

Progress?

Sometimes I feel like I am not making enough progress on certain projects. I have not been working on my Super Stripes socks much (I have only done a few rows since I posted about it last time), and my two afghan projects are so long-term that it will definitely be months before they are finished. So in the meantime, I cast-on another pair of socks to keep the tedium away.

These are some more squares for my Pure Wool Worsted Mystery Afghan KAL.I have now completed all the weeks in the Pretty Pink colourway and have now started the Candy squares. This means I have made 19 out of the 48 squares I need to complete the afghan.

Hummingbird - This yarn is the Snowberry & Lime's Sock Yarn in Faded Lilacs and I am using the Hummingbird pattern from The Knitter's Book of Socks. This will be my TV knitting as the lace pattern is simple, but I will have to consult it every row.

It looks like I have been able to add 14 more squares to my Sock Yarn Patchwork Afghan since the last time I posted about it. It is coming along, but I still have a lot more socks to knit before I can finish this one up.

Mint Green Goodness

I had to add a nice mint green scarf to my collection, and I found a great pattern and some great yarn to make the perfect cool weather accessory.

In and Out Scarf:
Yarn: Knit Picks Palette in Pistachio
Needle Size: US 6 (4.0mm)
Pattern Source: Imaraat by Swatch Love (Free Pattern!)

Love this pattern, love this yarn, love how this looks on me. This was just a great project to make and was an easy pattern to work with. The instructions are very clear, and easy to follow. I am going to get a lot of use from this scarf, especially now when the fall weather has started and the temperature is dropping.

Fall Knitting

For my birthday I received a ball of  Berroco's Boboli Lace and I wanted to make something special for myself with it. After looking through some of my favorite patterns on Ravelry I found the perfect project for this yarn.

Fall Shawl:
Yarn: Berroco's Boboli Lace in Venice
Needle Size: US 8 (5.0mm)
Pattern Source:  Lonely Tree Shawl by Sylvia Bo Bilvia (free Ravelry download)

I didn't even use up the whole ball of yarn for this project, I still have enough leftover to make a baby hat or two!

The pattern and the yarn are the perfect fit and this shawl is going to get a lot of use this fall.

I can't seem to get any good pictures of the whole shawl. Anybody else have this problem? Or is it just me? I would really like to take a photography lesson so that I could learn to take some beautiful pictures of my projects.

Baby Blanket

I finally finished the baby blanket I have working on for my unborn niece/nephew. This wasn't a hard pattern, and it turned out beautiful but I just couldn't get myself to work on it. So it ended up taking a lot longer to finish than it should have.

Roshana Baby Blanket:
Yarn: Mary Maxim's Baby's Best DK in Ecru
Needle Size: US size 8 (5.0mm)
Pattern Source:  Roshana Baby Blanket by Nadia Boucher (Ravelry download)

The simple stitch pattern for this blanket is so easy to do and is perfect for some mindless TV knitting. I can't wait to see my little niece or nephew wrapped up in this lovely blanket.
