I made a couple of new hats for Christmas using Cascade 220 yarn. I made them from the pattern for the Traveller's Hat (free Ravlery download!). I've made a few hats from this pattern and they are always a hit. With one ball of yarn I was able to make 2 hats, not as much slouch to them as usual, but they are still super cute.

Small Projects
I've completed two small projects recently. I needed a pencil case for school so I decided to make myself one. I only needed room for a few pens and highlighters so I thought this cute little case would be perfect.
Pencil Case:
Yarn: Unknown worsted weight yarn
Hook Size: G (4.00mm)
Pattern Source: Hook Monster - free pattern
This second little project was a gift for a co-worker, she wanted some cup cozies for her Tim Hortons coffee. These two patterns were simple and quick to make!
Cup Cozies:
Yarn: Unknown worsted weight yarn
Needle Size: Size 6 (4.00mm)
Pattern Source: The multi-colored sleeve is The Right out of Phase pattern and I can't remember where the brown one is from
These are some great small projects that are great to do in front of the TV.

Merry Christmas!
Just wanted to write a quick post to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and share some Christmas ornaments that I made.
I used the tutorial from Craft Snob called "Make a Felt Embroidery Ornament" it's a great step by step guide to make these. Super cute and easy.
The embroidery patterns are from The Feeling Stitchy December Stitch Along. These are great beginners patterns and I love the results!

Pretty Mittens
My sister asked me for a pair of mittens for her birthday last year. Not just any mittens, she sent me a picture of the type of mittens that she wanted. At the time that she asked me for them, I could not find a pattern to fit what she wanted, and I even tried to come up with my own design - to no avail. It just wasn't working.
So fast forward a year and I was looking through the new issue of Knit Simple Magazine, and I came across these beautiful fingerless mitts. So I adapted the pattern into mittens and added a bow and I love the result.
Christmas Mittens:
Yarn: Lion Brand Superwash Merino Cashmere in Ivory (I needed 2 balls)
Needles: Size 4 (3.5mm) DPNs
Pattern Source: Knit Simple Magazine Winter 2011/12
This yarn was absolutely delicious to work with, it is so soft and beautiful. I can't wait for her to finally see her gift!

Stitched up Bookmarks
There are a lot of people in my family who love to read (including myself), so I wanted to make some Christmas presents that were unique but still useful.
The tutorial on how to make fabric bookmarks on the Shiny Happy World Blog
is perfect for some simple Christmas presents.
These are the bookmarks I came up with. Keep in mind that this is the first time I have ever embroidered anything - so I made a few rookie mistakes. Like not picking a fabric that was thick enough so the threads still show through on some of them! In my defense, you couldn't see the threads through the fabric on the dog design until after I ironed it!
I am also listing where I got the pattern from, either I was inspired by a pattern and drew it out (this was the case when I couldn't find a pattern to go with an image) or I traced it from a pattern:
The Flower, The Bird and The Bunny Girl!
Even with very minimal embroidery skills, these were easy designs and were fast to make! They came our really nice and I'm sure the recipients will enjoy them!

Thick and Quick Blanket
I knit my sister a blanket for her birthday. I wanted to make her something comfy and warm, but not too big. I came across this pattern for the Moss Stitch Blanket. They size it for a baby blanket, so I casted on a few more stitches (45 stitches to be exact) and I continued knitting until I liked the size of it (I used up almost 4 whole balls of yarn). I didn't take any measurements but it is just slightly bigger then a lap blanket.
Moss Stitch Blanket:
Yarn: Wool-Ease Thick and Quick in Sequoia
Needles: Size 19 (15mm) circular needles - to accommodate the number of stitches.
Pattern Source: You don't really need a pattern, but I got the idea from the DROPS design for a moss stitch blanket
This is a great quick knit that gives great results!

Stash-Busting Challenge #8 - Complete!
I have been extremely busy with school these past couple of months. I hardly had time to sleep, let alone blog! I will be posting a bit more regularly during my Christmas break, but after that I can't make any promises!
I needed a new winter hat and when I found the pattern for Capucine, well it was just too darn perfect to pass up. It was a really quick knit, but the results are just too cute! I used yarn from my stash (and thus completing another Stash-Busting Challenge!) and I was able to knit it up in just a few hours (I think it took me just about 2 hours from start to finish).

Needles: Size 13 (9mm) 16" circular needles
Pattern Source: It is a free Ravelry download!
This is just such a great hat, I would recommend it to any type of knitter. For the less experienced knitter, it will be easy to make and the pattern is easy to follow. For a more experienced knitter, it is a fun and fast project that can be a great TV knit!
